Rhodochrosite cab ~
Offered here is an unusual cabochon of rhodochrosite, from Catamarca, Argentina. Not easy to come by like it once was, last I heard, the price of rough from this classic location is strictly controlled by the Argentinian goverment. This delicious cab features various shades of vibrant rose-pink coloration in an intricately banded zig-zag pattern, with a great degree of crystalline translucence. The metallic band boldly crossing the stone gleams darkly, containing at least some precious native silver content; a close look reveals that it has tiny, almost plume-like figures of lighter silver flecks within. The stone has a high rounded dome, and a great polish both front and back.
