Gem Silica cab ~
Here is a sweet cabochon of 100% natural gem silica chrysocolla, from Peru. This stone features wonderfully intense blues and greens, deep and electric, with crinkly patch of mossy green malachite for added appeal. It does have a nice degree of translucence, as shown by the backlit photo, though my camera and I didn't do very well capturing it. This highly silicated material is extremely hard and durable, and will easily last long enough to become a future heirloom. The stone has a very high rounded dome, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
