Turritella agate cab ~
Offered here is a fascinating cabochon of turritella agate, from Wyoming. This ancient fossilized material is chock full of turritella shells, from which it takes its name. The white shells are quite apparent in this nicely composed example, going every which way, with several showing cells filled with speckled brownish agate. And the network of shells stand out wonderfully against the dark background. Turritella agate was never a favorite of mine until not long ago, when a rockhound friend shared some of this great old solid stuff with me. It's a joy to work with, fine enough to take an excellent glassy shine. I'm sure you'll like it too, give it a try! The cab has a low rounded dome of 5mm, a crisp rectangular shape, and it's polished both front and back.
Size: 34x24mm
Weight: approximately 44 carats
