Purple agate ~
Offered here is a gorgeous cabochon of Majestic purple chalcedony, one of the spectacular finds of last year in Arizona. The miner, Jimmy Vacek of 49er Minerals, was kind enough to send some samples to me, and this stone is the first result. Amazing gemmy lavender-purple color, isn't it? If you look closely, you'll notice that there are tiny bursts of lighter colored sagenites within, which very much resemble pom poms along one edge. They are more pronounced on the backside. I think the contrast of a rich gold setting would really show this one of to spectacular advantage. The stone has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, a plump designer 'teardrop' shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
