Dinosaur Bone cab ~
Here is a collectible cabochon of pyritized dinosaur bone, from the Isle of Wight, known as 'Dinosaur Island'. The highly prized, extremely RARE material was sent to me by a nice fellow who personally finds fossils on the shores of his island residence. (Thanks Jeremy!) This dinny bone is many millions of years old, a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. Every last bit of the once living bone has been completely replaced with shiny metallic pyrite (probably marcasite too), and the subtle pattern of the darker cell walls is still apparent. There are a few empty cells where the actual marrow once was, nearly all on the backside, but I think those sparkling voids add to the cab's character rather than detracting. The cab has a rounded dome of 5mm, and a brilliantly shiny polish both front and back.
Size: 58x10mm
Weight: approximately 42 carats
Sold Current gemstone offerings $78.00
