Dinosaur Bone cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah. This highly silicated material is many millions of years old, a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. Over millennia, the cells in this fossil bone have been completely replaced with muted shades of bluish purple agate. The cells are rather loosly framed by a web of the actual cell walls, now tannish-brown in color, forever frozen in time. There are some neat 'cores' within many of the cells, making them look like tiny fortified agates, which they are! The stone is also surprisingly translucent, despite its 5mm thickness; please click the pics to view the closer shots for a genuine visual treat! The cab has a well rounded dome, a long and gracefully curved designer shape, and an excellent glassy polish both front and back.
