Crown of Silver Psilomelane cab ~
Offered here is a splendid cabochon of Crown Of Silver psilomelane, from Chihuahua, Mexico. This classic old wide-band material is sometimes referred to as 'black malachite', though there's no real relation. It's becoming increasingly spendy due to a lack of production at the source. This cab features terrific swirling banding in shiny 'smoked chrome' alternating with sub-metallic black that is always the perfect companion to mokume gane. The stone has a well rounded dome of 5mm, and a gracefully fluid designer shape you're sure to have fun with. It was tough to capture good photos because of the super reflective mirror-like polish, which it has both front and back, but these are a decent representation. In hand, you'll find it darker and somewhat more subdued overall.
