Shattuckite in chrysocolla cab ~
Offered here is a large cabochon of brilliant shattuckite, a rare copper silicate mineral from the Congo. This vibrant blue material is mighty hard to beat when it comes to eye catching, and I have to say these photos fall short of illustrating that. The colors don't translate very well digitally, but in hand, you'll see a strong electric cerulean blue, surprisingly translucent toward the small end. There is a scattering of black patches for contrast, and a few flecks of deep blue azurite. Those seemingly black areas are actually a darkly shiny metallic that's silver in color; probably hematite, if I had to hazard a guess. This highly silicated material is quite durable; it's naturally hard enough to take a great polish, and it will wear well in any type of jewelry you can dream up. This impressive stone has a high rounded dome of nearly 6mm, and it is nicely polished both front and back.
Size: 42x32mm
Weight: approximately 73 carats
