Moss opalite cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of moss opalite, from Australia, also known as dendritic opalite. This unusual form of opal has a background of lovely mustard yellow, with abstract splotches of a richer, more caramel shade, overlaid with an intricate display of black spidery dendrites. This one's all the more desireable because of its large open areas of intense color; too much moss overwhelms the color, making it appear muddy. I've set bright yellow opalite in both gold and silver with beautiful results, but I think the contrast of a silver mounting would show it off best. Of course, that's for you to decide! The cab has a nicely rounded dome of 6mm, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
