Purple agate ~
Offered here is a gorgeous cabochon of Majestic purple chalcedony, one of the spectacular recent finds in Arizona. The miner, Jimmy Vacek of 49er Minerals, was kind enough to send some samples to me so I could have some cabbing fun. Neat stuff, isn't it? It kind of reminds me of Burro Creek jasper, but this is gemmier and somewhat translucent.If you look closely, you'll notice that there are subtle bursts of sagenites within, like pom poms. I think the contrast of a rich gold setting would really show this one of to best advantage. The stone has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, a versatile designershape, and it is polished both front and back.
