Pigeon blood agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of rare pigeon blood agate, also known as cornelian, from Utah. This gemmy beauty is a well marked treasure, with an attractive scattering of crimson dots and clouds in a surprisingly translucent agate background. The color comes from zillions of tiny dots, with some mossy blooms, including one in olive green; please click to enlarge the photos to full size and you'll see what I mean. The stone has a low rounded dome of 4mm, a sweet designer 'flame' shape, and a brilliantly gleaming polish both front and back.
