Pietersite cab ~
Offered here is a vibrantly deluxe cabochon of old stock pietersite, from Africa. This stone has a trainload of alarming intensity in its bright golds, silky blues, and fiery crimsons, and an intriguing pattern that shifts and changes as the stone is turned; just as one area dims, another blazes up, though that quality is mighty tough to illustrate in one dimensional photos.
Surprisingly, there is a translucent area within this stone, and there was also a small terminated crystal in the tiny white area, which was ground away in the cutting. That small crystal area shows a wee bit of undercutting, and there are a couple miniscule voids elsewhere as well, but nothing overly detracting in a stone of this outstanding caliber. The cab has a somewhat sculpted rounded dome of nearly 5.5mm, a sleek designer shape, and a fine glassy polish both front and back. And my per carat price for African pietersite of this amazing quality is a genuine bargain!
