Imperial cab ~
Offered here is a spectacular cabochon of Imperial jasper, from Mexico. This collectible 'ojitos' material is simply wonderful stuff, another member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I love so much. (Ojitos means little eyes in Spanish.) This distinguished example features a neat orbicular pattern in lovely muted blues, ringed with shades of pistachio green, and somehow reminds me of a Japanese watercolor. The ghostly pattern fits the shape of the stone quite well, and the backside is just as beautiful. The stone has a low rounded dome of nearly 5mm, a long, gracefully curved designer shape, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
