Dinosaur Bone cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah. This highly silicated material is many millions of years old, a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. Over millennia, the cells in this fossil bone have been completely replaced with translucent purplish/blue agate, each framed by golden tan webbing that is the actual cell walls, forever frozen in time. Some of the cells are tinged with pink, and many show subtly banded 'cores' within the cells, making them look like tiny fortified agates, which they are! Backlit, the color transforms to warm hues, as illustrated by the last photo. The stone has a well rounded dome of 5mm, and an excellent glassy polish both front and back.
