Petrified wood cab ~
Offered here is a fascinating cabochon of petrified wood. It was cut from a slab marked 'Sheep's Head Mtn. KEEP'; I'm not familiar with the location but perhaps it'll be meaningful to those in the know. I can tell you this ancient fossil material was a joy to work, with next to none of the typical fractures pet wood so often has. It's more accurately called an agate replacement of wood, though a close look reveals that it still retains some subtle hints of ringed pattern of the living tree it once was. The backlit photo reveals that the stone is a gemmy gel-like agate, showing a cherry-carmel colored translucence. The pattern is oddly scenic, reminding Rain of a southeastern beach she visited as a child. This stone will look grand in most any setting, either gold or silver, no matter how simple or fancy. The cab has a rounded dome of 5mm, and a fine glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 39X29mm
Weight: approximately 62 carats
