Malawi blue agate cab ~
Offered here is a delicious cabochon of Malawi blue agate, also known as blue chalcedony, from Africa. The price of rough material this nice has skyrocketed in recent years, but I'd buy it anyway, if only I could FIND any! This stone features lovely translucent bluish-purple coloration, along with some subtle bands, as well as some interesting puffy clouds down each side. It was cut from the core of a nodule, and shows a delicately fortified heart at its center. The highly polished shape causes light to bounce around wonderfully in this stone, and at certain angles, it does appear to have some interesting adularescence. It's almost opalescent, and certainly very gemmy! Like a lot of blue agates, this stone tends to be moody, appearing even deeper in color when viewed in low lighting. It has high rounded dome of 6mm, a sweet designer shape, and a brilliant glassy polish both front and back.
