Pigeon blood agate cab ~
Offered here is a classic example of rare pigeon blood agate, also known as cornelian, from Utah. This old time material is so named for its resemblance to splashes or dots that are crimson in color, resembling droplets of pigeon's blood. This largish example is of the highest calibre, beautifully translucent, and loaded with red spots, speckles and splotches of all sizes, as illustrated by the backlit photo. I think the camera was a bit overwhelmed by the saturated color, which is a lovely shade of dark pinkish red. The stone has a generously rounded dome of 7mm, a sweet designer 'flame' shape, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 50x25mm
Weight: approximately 31 carats
