Here is a bold cabochon of top quality alunite , from the Quartzite, Arizona area. This easy-to-cut material is a pleasure to work with when it's this pretty. The cab features an attractive pattern in red and old ivory, and looks a lot like a snowbound forest on fire. Do you see what I mean? It'd look terrific set in either gold or silver jewelry, and it's unusual and not often seen, so let yourself have a little fun with it! The stone has a nicely rounded dome of 6+mm, a sleek symmetrical shape, and a super glossy polish both front and back.
