Brazilian agate cab ~
Offered here is a remarkable cabochon of top shelf banded agate, from Brazil. This striking example was cut from a prized old stock nodule, and features a fabulous array of bands in hues of red, yellow and orange, interspersed with clear and subtly milky bands. When backlit the colors are even more brilliant, and there is a wee hint of irising I didn't expect to find. Also within the stone are some odd feathers along one side, mentioned only for accuracy; I don't consider them to be flaws. The cab has a low but nicely rounded dome of 3.5mm, which is a bit thinner than I prefer but works fine for this stone, and a great glassy polish both front and back.
