Wave Hill agate cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Wave Hill agate, from Australia's Northern Territory. It's not often that a 'new' material becomes an instant favorite of mine, but this exceptional agate won my heart straight away. Everyone who sees it is impressed! When Terry Maple spied these agates at this year's Tucson show, he bought the entire lot! Bless his heart for sending some fine little nodules home for me to enjoy! Please take a good look at the details in this stone and you'll see why this world class agate has captured my imagination so. This one shows banded scallops, orbs, and some fortifications framing a core of maroon and brown, with several shades between. There are some reddish streaks across the center; they're colored red by the agate that flowed in to fill ancient fractures, healing them fully, so the stone is quite sound.
The uniqueness of each Wave Hill agate makes it a lapidary's fantasy, a collector's MUST HAVE, and I have no doubt it'll be a jewelry designer's best friend. The cab has a low but well rounded dome of 4mm, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 34x21 mm
Weight: approximately 23 carats
