Obsidian cab ~
Offered here is a large designer cabochon of gold sheen obsidian, from northern California. At first glance, it may appear to be plain ol' mahogany, but this one is composed of many flow layers. Some are clear, some golden, some dark, and cutting through those to shape the cab brings bands that almost resemble woodgrain, with a great visual effect of depth. While polishing this stone I kept thinking I saw some small gleaming rainbows of fire, but it wasn't my imagination, they're really there. Of course they're only visible at certain angles, just like rainbows in the sky refracted through raindrops by the sun. Surprisingly, the camera and I were able to capture the tiny ones in this stone. WOW, huh? Dream up something fantastic for this natural volcanic glass cab. It has a high rounded dome of 6.5+mm, a gracefully curvy shape, and a glassy polish both front and back.
