Deschutes jasper cab ~
Offered here is an interesting cab of Deschutes jasper, from Oregon. A long time favorite in the celebrated family of porcelain jaspers, this classic old material has become quite collectibly rare these days. This cabochon features a fabulous pattern in rich earthy tones of creamy tans and reddish browns, even some yellows. (Hmm, I think my new lens filter removed the hints of lavender, but they are there in the stone.) Viewed with a bit of imagination, this cab is rather scenic, with jet black dendrites that resemble bushes on distant hills. Oozing with character! It has a rounded dome of 5mm, a versatile shape that frames the jasper's pattern nicely, and a super glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 42x22mm
Weight: approximately 44 carats
