Wave Hill agate cab ~
Offered here is a large and very fancy cab of Wave Hill agate, from Australia's Northern Territory. It's not often that a 'new' material becomes an instant favorite of mine, but this exceptional agate won my heart straight away. Everyone who sees it is impressed! When Terry Maple spied these agates at this year's Tucson show, he bought the entire lot! Bless his heart for sending some fine little nodules home for me to enjoy! Please take a gander at the details in this stone and you'll see why this world class agate has captured my imagination so. It has a wild banded pattern in deep burgundy, rose, white, old ivory and brown, with some bullseyes and orbs, and a scattering of tiny freckles in some areas. There's a very rich look to this one, and it's partially translucent when backlit, as illustrated by the last photo. Yes indeedy, this agate is nothing short of outstanding!! The uniqueness of each Wave Hill agate makes it a lapidary's fantasy, a collector's MUST HAVE, and I have no doubt it'll be a jewelry designer's best friend. This gorgeous agate gem is more ovoid than oval, with a low but well rounded dome of 4.5mm, and a great glassy polish both front and back. There is a well healed feather on the backside of this one, though it's not a bit distracting, and barely visible from the front.
