Wave Hill agate cab ~
Offered here is a true collector's cab of Wave Hill agate, from Australia's Northern Territory. It's not often that a 'new' material becomes an instant favorite of mine, but this exceptional agate won my heart straight away. Everyone who sees it is impressed! When Terry Maple spied these agates at this year's Tucson show, he bought the entire lot! Bless his heart for sending some fine little nodules home for me to enjoy! Please take a good look at the details in this stone and you'll see why I consider this newcomer to be a world class agate. This stone is an unbelievably fine example of an eye agate, with splendidly ornate bullseyes nearly wall to wall. The shadows beneath some add a nice dimension of depth, make the bullseyes seem to be floating on the surface. Nice contrasting fortification bandings too, though the colors are rather tough to describe. Looks like a blended combination of mauves, browns, grays and whites to me. It very much resembles ocean jasper, and I must say it was a little shocking to see the fancy patterns emerge as I ground the cab to shape. Yes indeedy, this agate is nothing short of amazing, and I'm crazy about it, can you tell? The uniqueness of each Wave Hill agate makes it a lapidary's fantasy, a collector's MUST HAVE, and I have no doubt it'll be a jewelry designer's best friend. This mighty little eye agate gem has a generously high and well rounded dome of 9mm, a designer 'jellybean' sort of shape, and a great glassy polish both front and back. I do need to make you aware of the presence of some slight feathers in this stone, all too typical of Wave Hill agates, though they're quite well healed and not a bit distracting or devaluing; they simply appear to be part of the naturally formed pattern.
