Crown of Silver Psilomelane cab ~
Here is a truly remarkable cabochon of Crown Of Silver psilomelane, from Chihuahua, Mexico. This classic material is sometimes referred to as 'black malachite', though there's no real relationship. This beauty is loaded with both wide and fine bandings, and even some fascinating orby figures, in sub-metallic black and shiny silver, along with contrasting dark reddish patch. The red area is opaque, and looks more like jasper than others I've cut. The stone is very highly reflective, making photography quite challenging, but the pics are a great representation. The stone has a low but well rounded dome of 5mm, a sweet designer shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
