Gem Silica cab ~
Offered here is an extremely vivid cabochon of 100% natural gem silica chrysocolla, from Arizona. The deep saturated color of this stone is startlingly electric, but no matter how I tried, I could not accurately capture the rich dark intensity of it. It is actually a darker, even more brilliant, shade of turquoise/teal blue that's truly amazing. It does have a surprising degree of translucence, as shown by the backlit photo, which reveals a faint pattern of sagenitic inclusions. Although there are a couple short and very minor feathers present at one edge, they are easily overlooked. This highly silicated material is quite hard and durable, and will hold up to daily wear, even as a ring stone. The cab has a low but well rounded dome of nearly 4.5mm, with a glassy polish both front and back.
