Imperial cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Imperial jasper, from Mexico. This collectible 'ojitos' material is simply wonderful stuff, another member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I love so much. (Ojitos means little eyes in Spanish.) This one features an attractive orbicular pattern in shades of burnt orange and green with a hint of blue, surrounded by bands of olive and pastel lime with scallops of bright orange. The pattern fits the unusual shape of the stone well, and the backside is beautiful too. The stone has a low but nicely rounded dome, and a fine glassy polish both front and back.
