Dinosaur Bone cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of fossilized dinosaur bone, from Utah. This highly silicated material is many millions of years old, a marvelous example of the natural preservation of our earth's ancient, extinct 'thunder lizards'. Over millennia, the cells in this fossil bone have been completely replaced with various shades of bluish gray agate in both light and dark shades. Each cell is framed by a web of the actual cell walls, now jet black, forever frozen in time. There are some neat 'cores' within many of the cells, making them look like tiny fortified agates, which they are! The stone is also surprisingly translucent, despite its generous thickness; please click the pics to view the closer shots, which best reveal the stone's true nature. The cab has a high and well rounded dome of 7mm, and an excellent glassy polish both front and back.
