Death Valley plume agate~
Offered here is a collector's cabochon of Death Valley plume agate, also known as Wingate Pass plume agate, from California. This beautiful and very rare material is a classic favorite that's more and more difficult to come by these days, in part because the deposit is part of a strictly off-limits military base. What a pity. It features vibrant shades of reddish orange, golden yellow and ochre colored plumes, interspersed with pools of milky bluish agate. There's a bit of fortification and some crystallization present in places within the agate. Happily, this stone took a much better shine than does most, with only a very slight degree of the characteristic undercutting so typical of this type of agate. It's a real prize! The cab has a high rounded dome of 6mm, a crisp designer shape, and it's polished both front and back.
