Wave Hill agate cab ~
Offered here is a striking cab of Wave Hill agate, from Australia's Northern Territory. It's not often that a 'new' material becomes an instant favorite of mine, but this exceptional agate won my heart straight away. Everyone who sees it is impressed! When Terry Maple spied these agates at this year's Tucson show, he bought the entire lot! Bless his heart for sending some fine little nodules home for me to enjoy! Please take a good look at the details in this stone and you'll see why I've been burning the midnight oil cutting so many of these splendid agates. It has vividly contrasting fortification banding in orange and pastel pink, with a brecciated core that lets in a glimpse of pale blue. The backside is just as beautiful as the front, so I've included a photo to show it. It sure reminds me of Dryhead agate, half a world away from where this material was dug. The uniqueness of each Wave Hill agate makes it a lapidary's fantasy, a collector's MUST HAVE, and I have no doubt it'll be a jewelry designer's best friend. This boldly banded gem is a steal at less than $2 per carat. It's wild! This cab has a low but nicely rounded dome of about 5mm, and a great glassy polish both front and back.
