Mary Ellen jasper cab ~
Offered here is an interesting cab of prized Mary Ellen jasper, which hails from the now depleted mine of the same name in Minnesota's iron rich Mesabi Range. Highly sought after by collectors, this benchmark agatized stromatolite material is said to be 2.2 BILLION years old. It's a now fossilized agatized algae, credited with oxygenating the earth's atmosphere when it was alive, and this example shows several of the classic red 'roses'. The dark areas and speckles glinting between the roses are actually shiny metallic hematite, adding their appeal to the whole. The stone has a high rounded dome of 6.5mm, and an elegant shape, with a smooth glassy both front and back.
