Silver / cobaltite cab ~
Offered here is a large cabochon of native silver / cobaltite, from the Cobalt, Ontario, Canada mine. This is a collectibly rare material you definitely don't see everyday, one that's very difficult to find and expensive when you do. It has a high precious silver content, and certainly looks the part, being surprisingly heavy for its size. The cab took an unbelievably shiny polish, and although the surface may appear bumpy in the photos, it is completely smooth. Very reflective and brilliant, almost like chrome! The silver just seems to blossom into the white areas, like flower heads perhaps, alive and growing. Most of those 'flowers' have a tiny dendrite-like center, which I tried my best to illustrate in the photos. I think it's much more beautiful in hand. There's a bit of black matrix down one side, which in my opinion, sets it off nicely. Surely you'll find a special use for such an interesting cab! It has a well rounded dome of 5mm, and a nice shiny polish both front and back. A steal at well under $1.50 per carat!
Size: 48x27mm
