Binghamite cab ~
Offered here is a fancy cabochon of rare binghamite, from Minnesota. It's all but extinct nowadays, and I hear even the old mine dumps and tailings were thoroughly depleted long ago. Closely related kin to tigereye and silkstone, it's sometimes called 'the American pietersite', and when it's good, binghamite displays a delightful chatoyance, like this stone! This cab hass wall-to-wall flashy streaks of golden yellow with rusty reddish orange, with a few streaks of darkly shiny metallic hematite. It has a low rounded dome of 5+mm, a crisp, curving shape, and a slick glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 62x24mm
Weight: approximately 47 carats
