Imperial cab ~
Offered here is a cabochon of Imperial jasper, from Mexico. This collectible material has become quite scarce these days, and I often wish I had a truckload of it. It's a premier member of the fine grained porcelain jasper family I love so much. This one features an unusual 'curtain' pattern, the center of which is the deepest green, edged with a ring of deep pink, surrounded by a lighter green fading into yellowed ivory. The backlit photo shows that the dark core is actually a translucent green gel that's very gemmy. The pattern fits the unusual shape of the stone well, and the backside is beautiful too. The stone has a nicely rounded dome of 6+mm, a curvy designer shape, and a fine glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 33x31mm
Weight: approximately 46 carats
