Rainbow cal silica cab ~
Offered here is a designer cabochon of rainbow cal silica, from Mexico. It is easy to see how it got the 'rainbow' moniker; it really does have a rainbow of colors, and my wife Rain absolutely loves this stuff! Is it natural? Well, folks have produced documentation that this allophane material is naturally occuring rather than man-made, but I'm not completely convinced... I've also heard there's a photo in circulation showing of a rough piece with a modern aluminum pop top embedded in it, though I haven't yet seen it. But regardless of its origin, it is very popular stuff, and this eye catching stone is certainly beautifully striped and amazingly colorful. It should be a delight to design some fun item of jewelry to best show it off. The cab has a nicely rounded dome of 5mm, an elegant shape, and a fine glossy polish both front and back.
