Pigeon blood agate cab ~
Offered here is a classic example of rare pigeon blood agate, also known as cornelian, from Utah. This old time material is so named for its resemblance to splashes or dots that are crimson in color, resembling droplets of pigeon's blood. This largish example is of the highest calibre, beautifully translucent, and loaded with spots, speckles and splotches of all sizes, as illustrated by the backlit photo. I think the camera captured this one too brilliantly, when in hand it's a deeper, darker shade of red, not quite as bright or as orange. The stone has a nicely rounded dome of 6mm, a sweet designer shape, and a brilliantly glassy polish both front and back.
Size: 48x27mm
Weight: approximately 49 carats
