Rutilated quartz cab ~
Offered here is a fancy cabochon of rutilated quartz, from Brazil. It features beautifully flashy needles of bright golden rutile, scattered like jackstraws. The quality I like best about it is the stone's remarkable depth, created by the many layers of rutile, bunched up, single, and one atop the other, criss-crossing every which way. The clear quartz has next to none of the typical 'fairy frost' inclusions, but oddly enough, it does have a scattering of tiny bubbles that are kind of neat. And you should see how the rutile sparkles in direct sunlight, just like threads of spun gold! It has a beautifully rounded dome of 6mm, and a slick, glassy all-over polish.
